The building has a firm geometric language and the materials used add to an impression of subtle solidity. A white clad structure adorned with skilfully designed grey window elements give an initial impression that sets the tone for the artistic journey that unfolds within.
The villa’s layout is structured around a central axis, with spaces thoughtfully distributed on all sides. From the expansive double-height living room with a sunken sitting area and a large hall in the first floor that looks to an outdoor pool and gym, the spaces adapt and evolve to suit the occupants’ needs. Each room is designed with a new storyline in mind. One that follows the functionality of the space as well as converse with the light, shape, and form of its architectural elements. On the ground floor, laminam is used, covering the floor in a matte-matched finish, and wrapping the walls with white laminam that adds vastness to the space.
Wood plays a big role in the design and completes the laminam’s white by adding lines of oak veneer to the storyline. Finally, unique lighting fixtures float around the building providing sculptural ambient light. The stairs leading to the first-floor act as an interruption through the break in the laminam used, style of finish, and sculpted cladding. Throughout the design process, IBCC and the clients were present, taking part in the design decision process and iterative methodology. The material palette was guided by primary materials and generated through careful examination of natural daylight and artificial lighting elements.
